We provide a preschool program within our 4-5 year room at Merimbula-Tura Kindergarten.
Our curriculum is developed under the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia.
Five learning outcomes are what we work towards, these being:
1. Children have a strong sense of identity.
2. Children are connected and contribute to their world.
3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
4. Children are confident and involved learners.
5. Children are effective communicators.
Our curriculum is created under these headings, based on children’s needs and interests.
Our preschool program is rich in diverse and challenging experiences. Some areas of development currently included in our curriculum are drama, science and discovery, language and communication, numeracy, phonics and movement. Our focus on each area varies according to the current needs of your children.
As the year progresses we increase the number of shared small group experiences to encourage turn taking and listening skills.
We prefer not to call our program a ‘school readiness’ program as we believe this is not just a year about merely getting ready for school but about individual learning and exploration for the children. What we do is provide activities that support the children in being prepared physically and emotionally for their first year at school. Fine motor activities including mark making, self-help skills to develop independence and games and discussions to promote social skills and getting along with others are all provided on our curriculum.
We are a Long Day Care Centre and provide care throughout the year. Our four to five room operates in this way and the preschool program is ongoing throughout each and every day, not just term time. Through our last National Quality Standards inspection we achieved an exceeding result for our educational program and practice.
If you have any questions regarding our preschool program, please do not hesitate to contact us to organise a time to discuss our preschool curriculum and our goals, with Erica or Kellie, our preschool room leaders.
